Tobacco: meeting again for the first time
Trauma is passed genetically, through veins and arteries - preceding one’s birth. Bearing the unspoken memories, alongside the physical traits of ancestors the work formulates an ongoing perplexity within identity. Turning the camera inwards – being both the subject and the object allows for the body to become a site of re-enactment and reconstruction, and a space for reconciliation and farewell. Obsessively preserving a recording without ever hearing it since its inception created a lieu for oblivion, fiction and reintroduction. Separating the voice from the entity formed a new autonomous object living beyond the physicality and temporality of the flesh.
